COPMOBA's 2019 Accomplishments
The crew over here at COPMOBA wanted to say thank-you for your support in 2019 and for helping us celebrate 30 years of building trail! The support that we receive through donations and memberships like yours is what enables us to continue our mission to build, maintain, and advocate for singletrack trails in western Colorado. Below are just a few things that COPMOBA accomplished in 2019 through our 5 chapters:Palisade Plunge
Worked with project partner Mesa County on Phase I construction planning & release of Phase I bid package.
Presented at CPW Partners in the Outdoors Conference on how the Plunge projectillustrates partnership between public lands recreation, public land agencies,municipalities, and the ranching industry.
Selected Singletrack Trails as Plunge Phase I construction contractor
Ground breaking ceremony held with all partners, including national level representatives from BLM, USFS
Phase I construction began in July 2019
Created application with project partners for Phase II funding via the GOCO ConnectInitiative Received Phase II grant award via GOCO Connect Initiative
Began creation of full project Monitoring & Maintenance plan with project partners
Executed fundraiser for full project Maintenance Fund, raising ~$7K at this event alone
Performed Phase I construction site visits to review & approve construction status
2019 construction season ended with 11 miles of trail completed
DAMB- Delta Area Mountain Bikers
Consulted with BLM about proposed trails on Smith Mtn in the Gunnison Gorge NCA and submitted plans for 30 miles of conceptual trail to be surveyed for cultural impacts
Continued development of singletrack trails at Confluence Park in Delta. DAMB volunteers helped construct over a mile of new trail and maintain portions of new trail built in 2018.
Partnered with the City of Delta in developing the bike park at Confluence Park. Construction has commenced and will continue into 2020.
Organized volunteer work days at newly developed trails near Hotchkiss High School. Over a mile built of new trail in that location.
GVC- Grand Valley Canyons
Mack Ridge Project finished by Singletrack Trails, Inc. in March 2019 with completion of Wrangler’s Extension, Steve’s Reroute, Lower Moore Fun and rehabilitation of old Steve’s double track. A lot of community support made this happen!
Supported development of the North Fruita Desert Master Plan which was adopted by the City of Fruita. Over 26 miles of new trails proposed for the North Fruita Desert SRMA.
Supported a maintenance crew from Western Colorado Conservation Corps that worked for six weeks on North Fruita Desert and Kokopelli trails, along with City of Fruita, BLM and Over the Edge-Fruita.
Sponsored maintenance days on Gunny Loop, Lunch Loops, Horsethief Bench, Rustler’s Loop, Lion’s Loop, Mesa Top and Crane Lake Trails.
Fundraising events included Grand Valley Bike Swap, Fruita Fat Tire Festival, Rhythm & Brews in Downtown Grand Junction and Oktoberfest (Crafted in conjunction with Handlebar Tap House).
Constructed new connector trails to the improvements at the Lunch Loops main trailhead.
RAT- Ridgway Area Trails
MOU with USFS secured for trail maintenance of Dallas Trail
Successful RAT race with roughly 70 attendees
Successful fundraising at Ridgway Music in the Park for the month of July
Applied for CPW planning grant and Telluride Foundation grant to help fund a Regional Trail Plan
MUT- Montrose Uncompahgre Trails
Awarded CPW grant for construction and installation of two bridges across Spring Creek on the Lower Spring Creek connector trails
Received approval from the BLM for construction of a new 20-mile nonmotorized trailsystem in Linscott Canyon
Received a $5000 SCORP grant for cultural clearances for a 7-mile expansion of theBuzzard Gulch trail system
Hosted workdays for trail maintenance on Cerro Summit and at Buzzard Gulch trails
Co-hosted the Uncompahgre Trail Bash along with DAMB and GVC chapters
WET- West End Trails
Worked with WETA to secure a $45,000 CPW Planning grant for the West End Trails Master Development Proposal
Installed an exterior map/kiosk at the Gateway Community Center
Generated over 120 volunteer hours for various trail maintenance, clean-up and signage projects
Worked with WETA to produce 2,000 copies of the second edition of the West End area trails map sold in over 40 regional retailers
Held two local stakeholder meetings to gather input for the West End Trails Master Development Proposal
Logged 160 hours and 220 miles exploring potential existing trails in the West End for our maps and planning proposal
