Lunch Loop Bike Park rebuild effort underway
A new project to rebuild the Lunch Loop Bike Park has begun with the Colorado Plateau Mountain Bike Trail Association raising funds to help pay for the work.
COPMOBA, in partnership with the City of Grand Junction, is leading the rebuilding effort. The project is set to be constructed in two phases with the first phase already underway, according to a news release.
“We are thrilled to partner with the City of Grand Junction to reimagine the Lunch Loop Bike Park,” Executive Director of COPMOBA Faith Rodriguez said. “This space has long been an important part of our local riding community and this rebuild will ensure it continues to inspire new riders while providing exciting features for experienced cyclists.”
Construction on the Bike Park, which is located near the Lunch Loop Trail System trailhead, will include building a new dual slalom course “designed to create an engaging and welcoming riding experience for youth, families, and riders of all abilities,” according to the release.
The land where the bike park resides is owned by the city and leased to COPMOBA, which is responsible for continued maintenance and operation of the bike park.
COPMOBA is asking riders to respect temporary closures of portions of the bike park during construction.
Spencer Rugland of Thunderbird Trail Works, a respected trail builder, is partnering with COPMOBA and the city to rebuild the Bike Park, according to the release.
“The Lunch Loop Bike Park has been a valuable community asset for years,” Rugland said. “We’re excited to work alongside COPMOBA and the City of Grand Junction to create a space that will serve riders for generations to come.”
Fundraising efforts for the project are currently underway, led by COPMOBA, which is seeking $225,000 in community support. According to its website, COPMOBA has raised nearly $38,000 so far. The project will be completed in two phases as funding allows.
