Inaugural community mountain bike race sees excellent turnout

A brand new all-ages and all-ability mountain bike race event hosted by the local COPMOBA chapter Delta Area Mountain Bikers (DAMB) and The Nature Connection saw a better-than-expected participant turnout on Saturday.

The event, dubbed "RAD by the Rivers," kicked off at 9 a.m. at the Confluence Park trail systems, featuring heats for all ages and the optional use of the stunt course, which provided riders the opportunity to subtract 20 seconds per lap from their overall time and to be considered for the "best trick" award.

The race also showcased a fashion-sense twist, with participants encouraged to show up in their best 1980s apparel.

"This was way, way, way bigger than what we ever imagined... It's such a great turnout, awesome costumes, everybody, thank you," DAMB Chairman Peter Brown said. "I just can't thank you enough."

Brown said organizers entered the event with a goal of 50 participants. They had 94.
